CyrusOne Joins Spanish Datacenter Association Ahead of Madrid Groundbreaking

October 13, 2022

CyrusOne, a leading global data center developer and operator, has announced it is joining SpainDC, the Spanish Data Center Association, as a Partner. This partnership formally solidifies CyrusOne’s commitment to the Spanish Market and to raising the profile of the industry in Spain.

SpainDC connects the leading data center operators and suppliers in the Spanish market with a central mission, to both solidify the industry as the foundation of our digital society, and widen opportunities for businesses and consumers alike through collaboration and connection.

This partnership marks another step forward in CyrusOne’s European growth and commitment to the continent, with 272 MW of IT capacity across its operational and active development portfolio in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin and Madrid, and partnerships with similar industry groups including the German, UK, Dutch, and Irish Data Center Associations.

“We’re thrilled to be joining another key European industry association and look forward to working closely with members and group affiliates to ensure the Spanish data centre industry continues to grow at pace,” said Matt Pullen, EVP Managing Director Europe at CyrusOne and Chairman of the Board of the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact (CNDCP). “The association does incredibly important work for a vital part of our digital ecosystem, and we look forward to collaborating with and learning from this important European hub.”

“This partnership with SpainDC cements our commitment to the capital city and the country more broadly,” added Amparo Garcia Puente, Development Manager, Design & Construction at CyrusOne. “We are passionate about building sustainable data centres for the future and this facility is designed and built with energy efficiency and innovative cooling at its core, achieving at least a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ classification. We look forward to further progressing this mission in tandem with SpainDC.”

CyrusOne acquired the freehold purchase of the 5-acre site in Alcobendas in 2021, with the facility set to offer 6,000 sqm of world-class technical space in a single two-story building, and 18 MW of total IT load to the facility.

“We’re excited to have CyrusOne join us as a key member of our association, and look forward to progressing in our goals and mission alongside them,” said Manuel Gimenez Rasero, Executive Director of SpainDC. “The data center sector is truly the backbone of our digital society, and we’re committed to enabling equal opportunities and improving the quality of life of citizens, which we know CyrusOne´s values as a company align well with.”
