Data Center Systems include backup power supplies, data connections, facility controls, and security devices.
Backup power supplies include one or more uninterruptible power supplies, battery banks, and/or diesel generators. To prevent single points of failure, all elements of the electrical systems, including backup systems, are typically fully duplicated, and critical servers are connected to both the “A-side” and B-side” power feeds.
Communication in data center systems contains a set of switches that transport traffic between the servers to the outside world.
Data center systems feature fire protection systems, including smoke detectors, fire sprinkler systems, and fire walls around the data center.
Security plays a vital role with data center systems. Physical access to the site is generally restricted to selected personnel, which generally require security guards and video camera surveillance to be present. Network security, such as firewalls and VPN gateways are also important in protecting data center systems from intrusion.
