A Server is a hardware system dedicated to operating one or more services to supply the needs of users of the other computers on the network.
Servers generally offer necessary services across a network, either to private customers inside a large organization or to public users through the Internet. For example, when a term is entered in a search engine, the query is sent from the computer over the internet to the servers that store the applicable web pages. The results are relayed back by the server to the computer.
The term “server” is generally used in information technology. Any automated process that allocates a resource to one or more client processes is a server. For instance, file sharing has to do with the existence of files on a machine, but it is not classify it as a server. The device which shares these files to customers by the operating system is the server.
