With October being Sustainability Month, we at CyrusOne wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the great progress made by the data center industry in this area to date, while also recognizing the importance of maintaining and increasing this positive momentum.
CyrusOne has long prioritized sustainability efforts. We strive to exceed expectations in all areas from biodiversity to climate to measurement. A few recent highlights include:
We are very proud of the strides we have made as a company, and we are always striving to do better and do more. For instance, our sixth data center and training facility in London (LON6) will be our most ambitious sustainability effort yet, with its focus on biodiversity and community potentially setting a new standard for green data centers.
The critical nature of data centers means that we have to think creatively and not approach sustainability as a box-ticking exercise. We don't look at the data center in a silo or implement sustainable features to simply meet industry regulation; rather we use that as a baseline and then go beyond that to find ways for our facility to holistically contribute to and improve the environment, community and society at large.
As we look ahead, we know there is much work to be done as we collectively and urgently address climate change. This is why we don't just view World Sustainability Day as a single day, but rather an ongoing ethos and commitment that influences everything we do. We will always strive to do more and do better as we continue to enable the functioning of our modern society today - providing critical data infrastructure across healthcare, finance and education - while ensuring an ongoing focus on the needs of tomorrow.
We remain ready for the challenge ahead.
