Chandler wins One Green Globe Building Designation
The Green Globe means our Chandler facility: “Demonstrates a strong commitment to resource efficiency, reducing environmental impact and improving occupant wellness.”
It also marks the most recent GBI Green Globes win for CyrusOne, which won the Three Green Globes designations for its Aurora I and Aurora II data centers in suburban Chicago in 2021.
GBI is a nonprofit organization and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer whose mission is to: “Improve the built environment and reduce climate impacts through exceptional education, tools, standards, and assessments that deliver sustainable, healthy, and resilient buildings.”
Under the program, GBI taps third-party assessors to score a facility based on ratings for energy; water; indoor environment quality; environment, social and governance (ESG); materials; and site. Its assessors visited the 562,500-square-foot Chandler campus on April 28 and gave Chandler 435 out of 949 available points for a score of 45.8%, which is equivalent to One Green Globe.
Here’s how Chandler scored in GBI’s individual categories:
- Water – 125 points
- Energy – 89 points
- Indoor Environment Quality – 84 points
- ESG – 58 points
- Materials – 48 points
- Site – 31 points
Assessors specifically praised Chandler for achieving water efficiency by using reclaimed water from the city for landscape irrigation; incorporating high-efficiency lighting design throughout the property; using ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, establishing a guideline for green/sustainable features, including recycling of construction waste, VOC limits, maintaining indoor air quality standards during construction, and specifying sustainable design and construction materials; and using refrigerants with no to negligible ozone deletion potential in the HVAC systems.
We are proud Chandler gained the One Green Globe Building Designation and will continue to work toward improving its score as part of our sustainability mission.
The Chandler campus is no stranger to high praise and awards for its sustainability efforts. In 2021, it generated high marks in the coveted ENERGY STAR rating system, which recognized its efforts to operate at the highest possible efficiency at the facility. Chandler also won the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program’s Top Project of the Year Award after becoming our first net positive water data center and the first such data center that we know of in the world.
We also recently published our 2022 Sustainability Report, which overs corporate governance, environmental impact, and social responsibility. In it, you’ll find exhaustive reporting, charts, graphics, statistics, numbers, methodology and highlight stories that confirm our successes and reveal areas where we plan to improve.
But we couldn’t hit our current and future sustainability goals without the hard work and passion of our people, who exemplify our motto of One company, one team, one purpose. So, this year’s report is also peppered with vignettes about some of the talented people who lead our sustainability charge.
We hope you’ll spend some time with the report getting to know them and CyrusOne better, as we continue with a focus on resilience that never waivers from a deep commitment to sustainability while ensuring our data centers keep the world connected.
