|
Description |
Bandwidth
|
The
amount of bits that can pass across
a network connection (LAN, WAN,
etc.) |
Business
Continuity
|
A
proactive service measure that
includes the preparation, planning
and execution of a tactical plan
to ensure uninterrupted service
of business operations in the
event of an outage, disaster or
unplanned event crippling one’s
business systems. |
| Cabinet |
Closet-like
secured enclosure equipped to
rack mount store servers, switches
and other devices. Cabinets can
come in several sizes ranging
from quarter to full sizes. |
| Cage |
Hosting option
for colocation clients to provide
additional security of their cabinets.
Generally secure, cages provide
for private, restricted access
of equipment within a gated perimeter. |
| Client Operations Portal |
Portal enabling
access to real-time data on device
health, bandwidth utilization
and general web statistics. Depending
on the breadth of the portal,
additional services may include
a Service Desk for creating trouble
tickets and reviewing status. |
| Cold Site |
A disaster
recovery option that provides
only the physical space for recovery
operations while the organization
using the space provides its own
hardware and software systems.
An option selected when the Recovery
Time Objective is greater than
72 hours. |
| Colocation |
The service
of providing network connections
such as Internet leases lines
to servers located within a dedicated
facility designed with resources
which include a secured cage or
cabinet, regulated power, dedicated
Internet connection, security
and support. |
| Data Center |
A centralized
storage facility providing space,
power, connectivity and security
to host and protect applications
and network systems. |
| Device |
Any machine
or component that attaches to
a computer. Most devices, whether
peripheral or not, require a program
called a device driver that acts
as a translator, converting general
commands from an application into
specific commands that the device
understands. |
| Disaster Recovery |
A reactive
service measure to get business
systems online following an outage,
disaster or unplanned event that
have crippled one’s business
systems. |
| Enterprise Management |
Performance
of any level of managed services
from any location and outside
of CyrusOne’s Enterprise
Data Center. May be referred to
as remote monitoring and management. |
| Hot Site |
A fully operational
offsite data processing facility
equipped with both hardware and
system software to be used in
the event of a disaster or for
business continuity or disaster
recovery. An option selected when
the Recovery Time Objective is
less than 12 minutes. |
| HUB |
A common connection
point for devices in a network. |
| Intrusion Detection
System |
An Intrusion
detection system (IDS) inspects
all inbound and outbound network
activity and identifies suspicious
patterns that may indicate a network
or system attack from someone
attempting to break into or compromise
a system. |
| Network Management |
Utilizing
some or all of the following;
account management, change management,
security managemen in
support of network devices to
properly administer and manage
an enterprise or network. |
| NOCC |
Short for
network operations command center,
the physical space from which
a typically large telecommunications
network is managed, monitored
and supervised. The NOCC coordinates
network troubles, provides problem
management and router configuration
services, manages network changes,
allocates and manages domain names
and IP addresses, monitors routers,
switches, hubs and UPS systems
that keep the network operating
smoothly, manages the distribution
and updating of software and coordinates
with affiliated networks. |
| Patch Management |
The management
and reporting of software updates
and maintenance. (This service
is currently only available for
Windows O/S and Windows applications) |
| Remote Monitoring |
The monitoring
of applications and infrastructure
outside of CyrusOne’s data
center. See Enterprise Management. |
| Router Management |
Management
of router configuration, installation,
modifications, and updates as
well as troubleshooting. |
| SLA |
Short for
Service Level Agreement, an SLA
is a contractual agreement that
the level of service (be it power,
availability, etc.) will perform
at a specific level. In some cases,
compensation terms are laid out
if the SLA does not, at a minimum,
perform at the agreed upon level. |
| Smart Hands |
Smart Hands
involves the physical act of performing
of tape rotations, hardware swaps
and other manual services. May
also be identified as Remote Hands. |
| Storage and Backup |
Services including
but not limited to electronic
data storage, tape backup and
optional off-site storage. |
| Switch |
In networks,
a device that filters and forwards
packets between LAN segments.
Switches operate at the data link
layer (layer 2) and sometimes
the network layer (layer 3) of
the OSI Reference Model and therefore
support any packet protocol. LANs
that use switches to join segments
are called switched LANs or, in
the case of Ethernet networks,
switched Ethernet LANs. |
| UPS |
Short for
uninterruptible power supply,
a power supply that includes a
battery to maintain power in the
event of a power outage. Typically,
a UPS keeps a computer running
for several minutes after a power
outage. |
| VPN |
Short for
virtual private network, a VPN
is a network that is constructed
by using public wires to connect
nodes. |
| Warm Site |
An option
selected when the Recovery Time
Objective is less than 4 hours. |
